Privacy Policy
Bmark.cc and Sync Bookmarks
Effective date: October 16, 2026
1. Who we are
Bmark.cc is operated by an individual based in Portugal, identified in the Contact section below, who is responsible for your data. In this policy, “Bmark.cc,” “we,” and “us” refer to the operator of the Sync Bookmarks browser extension, the Bmark.cc website, and the bookmark-transfer service (together, the “Service”).
For privacy questions, requests, or complaints, contact us at privacy@bmark.cc.
2. What Sync Bookmarks does
Sync Bookmarks has a single purpose: transferring bookmarks between browsers, browser profiles, or computers. When you choose to create a transfer, the extension uploads your bookmarks to Bmark.cc, which creates a temporary transfer link and code. Opening the link, or entering the code in the extension in another browser, lets you view and import those bookmarks.
The Service does not synchronize bookmarks continuously in the background and does not require an account.
3. Data we process
Bookmark data
The extension reads your browser's bookmarks locally to show them to you and, when importing, to avoid creating duplicates. Nothing is uploaded until you choose to create a transfer.
When you create a transfer, the extension sends Bmark.cc the complete bookmark tree that your browser makes available, including:
- bookmark and folder titles and URLs;
- folder structure, ordering, separators, and folder roles such as the bookmarks bar;
- technical bookmark metadata provided by the browser, such as internal identifiers, positions, dates added or last used, and sync or managed status; and
- information about the source browser, such as its name, version, and user-agent string, and the time the transfer was created.
Bookmark titles and URLs can contain personal, confidential, or sensitive information. Review your bookmarks before creating a transfer if this concerns you.
When you import a transfer, the extension downloads it and creates the folders and bookmarks in the destination browser without replacing existing bookmarks. If the destination browser synchronizes bookmarks, the browser provider handles them under its own terms.
Transfer link and code
Each transfer receives a random code, a link, and an expiry time. Anyone who has the link or code can view and import the bookmarks until the transfer expires, so share it only with people and devices you trust.
Technical and usage information
When your browser or the extension connects to Bmark.cc, we receive and may record:
- your IP address, which we use for security and rate limiting and store in event records only as a pseudonymous keyed hash;
- browser information sent with requests, such as the user-agent string, client hints, and language preferences;
- transfer events, such as a transfer being created, viewed, requested for import, or imported, with their outcome, time, the transfer code involved, and import result counts; and
- server, access, and error logs, which may include IP addresses, requested pages, response status, and error details.
We use this information to operate, secure, debug, and measure the reliability of the Service, and we may create aggregate statistics from it, such as success rates by browser. If a bookmark upload fails, we record the submitted bookmark tree, error details, and request context in server logs. Successful uploads do not include bookmark contents in these reports.
We use Simple Analytics to measure visits to public informational pages without cookies. It does not collect or store visitors' IP addresses. Analytics is not loaded on bookmark-transfer, private feedback, or admin pages.
Information you send us
If you contact us, we process your email address, your message, and anything else you choose to share so that we can respond, handle your request, protect the Service, or comply with law.
4. Browser permissions
- Bookmarks: to read the bookmarks you transfer and to create imported bookmarks and folders.
- Storage: to keep extension settings and temporary transfer state on your device, such as transfer codes, expiry times, and import results.
- Scripting and access to
https://bmark.cc/*: to communicate with the Service and its transfer pages.
The extension does not read your browsing history or the content of websites other than Bmark.cc.
5. How we use data and our legal bases
- Bookmark data and transfer information are used to provide the transfer you request. Where the GDPR or similar laws apply, this processing is necessary to provide the service you asked for.
- Technical and usage information is used for our legitimate interests in operating, securing, debugging, and improving the Service and preventing abuse.
- Correspondence is used to respond to you and handle your request, based on our legitimate interests or legal obligations.
- We also process data where necessary to comply with legal obligations.
6. Limited use of data
We use data only to provide, maintain, secure, and improve bookmark transfer. We do not sell user data, use or transfer it for personalized advertising, transfer it to data brokers or other information resellers, or use it to determine creditworthiness or for lending. These restrictions also apply to aggregated, anonymized, and derived data.
Sync Bookmarks' use and transfer of information received through browser extension APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements, and to the add-on policies of the other stores where the extension is distributed.
We do not routinely read bookmark contents. We, and people acting on our behalf, may access a specific transfer only with your permission (for example, to help with a support request), when necessary to diagnose a failed upload, for security or abuse investigations, or to comply with law. We may review aggregated, anonymized data for internal operations.
7. Who receives data
- People you share with: Anyone with an active transfer link or code can view and import the bookmarks.
- Service providers: Providers of hosting, email, analytics, error monitoring, and alerting process data on our behalf, under confidentiality and data-protection obligations. They may be located in other countries; where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers.
- Browser providers: If your browser synchronizes bookmarks, the browser provider processes them under your browser settings and its own terms.
- Legal and safety: We may disclose data when required by law or when necessary to protect against malware, fraud, abuse, or threats to the Service or its users.
- Business transfers: If the Service is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, we will transfer extension-derived user data only after obtaining your explicit prior consent.
8. Retention
- Transfers: A transfer is available for a limited period shown when it is created (currently one hour). After it expires, it can no longer be accessed and is deleted from our active systems, normally within 24 hours. Encrypted backups may contain copies for up to 30 days; expired transfers are not made available again after a restore.
- Technical and usage information, logs, and error reports: kept for up to 12 months, then deleted or aggregated.
- Aggregate statistics that do not identify anyone may be kept as long as they are useful.
- Correspondence: kept as long as needed to handle your request and any related legal claim or obligation.
- Data on your device: extension settings and temporary transfer state remain in extension storage until no longer needed or the extension is removed. Imported bookmarks remain in your browser until you delete them.
9. Security
We use HTTPS for data in transit, encryption for stored data, restricted administrative access, rate limiting, and time-limited transfers.
Transfers are not end-to-end encrypted: Bmark.cc can read a transfer in order to display it and deliver it to the destination browser. Anyone with the active link or code can access the transfer. No system is completely secure, so treat the link like a temporary password.
10. Your choices and rights
You decide whether to create a transfer and whom to give the link or code.
When the extension shows a delete action after export or import, anyone with the transfer link or code can use it to remove the uploaded bookmarks from the live database. This disables the transfer link for everyone, but does not remove bookmarks from any browser. Transfer metadata and technical logs are retained under the retention rules above; existing backup copies follow the backup retention period.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal data, to data portability, and to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. To make a request, email privacy@bmark.cc.
Because the Service has no accounts and stores mostly pseudonymous records, we may ask for a transfer code or other details to locate your data, and we may be unable to link some records to you.
You may also lodge a complaint with a data protection authority, such as Portugal's Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados.
11. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided data through the Service, contact privacy@bmark.cc.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The updated version takes effect when posted here with a new effective date.
If a change materially affects how extension data is collected, used, or shared, such as collecting a new type of data or using data for a new purpose, we will notify you prominently in the extension or Service before the change applies and ask for your consent where required by law or browser-store policy.
